Buddy Bites has a list of dedicated pet nutritionists, formulators, manufacturing partners and veterinarians based in Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore. Some of the people on-board are Dr Tiffany Harries, DVM, and Alexandra Wesker, Certified Animal Nutritionist.

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and FEDIAF (the European pet food industry) set the benchmark standards for quality pet food. They are a regulatory body based in the U.S. and Europe, and we make sure to stay in their good books!

Buddy Bites' prebiotic blend refers to chicory-derived FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) and inulin, to support digestive health. Alongside yeast cell wall (MOS — mannan-oligosaccharides) for gut flora support and psyllium husk for bowel regularity. What this means is that we have your pets' sensitive stomachs in mind.

It simply refers to a food protein that your pet has never eaten before – such as duck, turkey, lamb. And because of the body's unfamiliarity with it, it has a lower chance to cause undesirable symptoms that common meats, like chicken or beef, have.

Chicken fat is included as a source of concentrated dietary energy, essential fatty acids, and palatability. For food allergy concerns, it must be understood that the reaction is triggered by a protein-specific immune response. Because dietary fat is chemically a triglyceride with no amino acid sequence, it shouldn’t trigger a hypersensitive reaction.

Buddy Bites is tested straight after production and then again following arrival in Asia by a third party lab. We work alongside our vets to test for all recent recall issues to make sure we are providing the safest pet food we can offer. We test for Salmonella & E. Coli bacteria, Mycotoxins (Ochratoxin & Aflatoxins), Melamine and its metabolites, and excess vitamin D2 & D3 for peace of mind.

We created 'Mini Salmon' for smaller teefs and mouths. Ranging at 6-8mm compared to the standard size 12-14mm, Smaller breeds (<5kg or 11lbs) aren't left out from the pack.

Dogs may be sensitive to sudden changes, so go gradual over about 7 days - start with roughly 25% Buddy Bites mixed into their current food, increasing the ratio every couple of days until you're fully switched over. Extend the transition period over 14 days if your dog's stool quality isn't ideal. Every dog is different.

The number of meals fed a day depends on the size and age of your dog. For puppies, the general recommendation is 3 meals per day until 6-8 months. Slowly transition to 2 meals a day for after 6 months of age. If the breed is larger, slow down the transition. 1 meal a day is also acceptable for some adult dogs, and especially senior dogs (>10 years old). We include grains in all of our recipes. 'Good' grains are carbohydrates which are an important part of a dog's diet, as they are omnivores. There are ongoing investigations into the links between grain-free recipes and DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy). Whilst the investigations are not concluded, we prefer to avoid grain-free for now.

It's animal liver that has been broken down using water and natural enzymes making it highly digestible, and reduces the chances of a negative reaction towards a specific protein.

Although our recipes aren't specifically formulated for seniors, scientifically a healthy senior dog is able to thrive on an adult formula. However the daily feeding recommendations need to be reduced to fit the slower lifestyle of your senior dog.

Depending on the expected size of your pup when s/he reaches full size. Small-medium breeds (below 20kg) should slowly transition to an adult recipe at 6 – 8 months. Large and extra-large breeds (>20kg) take longer to reach full adult size, so transition can start from 11-12 months.

Our toppers are designed to pair with kibble (a complete meal), so it shouldn't take up more than 10% of your pet's daily food needs. For example, if your dog needs 200g of dry food a day, feed only 20g of toppers a day. However if your pet has a sensitive stomach, try feeding a teaspoon (5g) of the toppers on the first day.

Yes, Buddy Bites cat kibble contains 1,500mg/kg of taurine, and Buddy Bites canned food contains at least 1,000mg/kg of taurine. We understand that cats can't make their own taurine so we have you covered!

Our kitten formula is created to support bone and muscle growth, so it has higher calories, calcium and phosphorus compared to the adult recipe. We recommend feeding the Kitten Chicken recipe up to 10-12 months old, and slowly transition to Buddy Bites Chicken or Salmon Adult recipe.

Our dry kibble includes 'good' grains, just like our dog food, as cats can still benefit from some fibre and grains for stool movement and to feed the gut bacteria, despite being carnivores. It is added in for moisture retention, acting as a binder for the meat and liquid and improves texture to improve the palatability of the food. Despite it being a form of carbohydrate, it is safe and highly digestible for cats. The bulk of our canned food still contains animal-derived protein.

We currently don't carry any specific foods suitable for cats with kidney issues, but if your cat had a past problem and your veterinarian has cleared them, you may try our canned chicken recipe. It is high in hydration and low in phosphorus.

We always suggest selecting the protein based food your cat is more used to, but if you're not sure – we suggest trying the Chicken Kibble recipe. Always transition new foods slowly.

Our Kitten Chicken (36%) recipe has the highest protein followed by Adult Chicken and Salmon kibble (34%). For our wet food, the Tuna with Sardine and Mackerel in Gravy (17.4%) contains the highest protein content. Point to note: as our wet food has higher moisture content, the protein content appears lower than our dry formulas – but it is still a great variety to add to your cat's diet!

For an average sized cat (~4kg), up to 1/3 pouch per day is sufficient. This can be put directly on their dry food or served alongside it, depending on your cat's preference. General rule of thumb, the amount of toppers shouldn't exceed more than 10% of your cat's daily caloric intake. What does that look like? – e.g. A 4kg healthy, neutered, adult cat with moderate activity can eat 18-20g of a Buddy Bites Topper pouch a day or ¼ to 1/3 of a pouch a meal. This is assuming you are filling the rest of the bowl with a complete and balanced dry food.
