Transitioning your dog to new food

There may be several reasons why there is a need to change your dog’s diet:

Food allergy
New stage of life (e.g. Puppies turning into Adults)
Different diet recommended by your vet
Bringing a new pet home and want to phase out the old diet

No matter what reason you may have to want to change your dog’s diet, always remember to transition gradually and introduce them to the new food slowly in order to prevent stomach upset or even a loss of appetite which may be a nightmare to handle.

Do take note that puppies should switch to adult diets once they are about 12 months of age to ensure they receive the appropriate nutrient levels needed. Here at Buddy Bites we offer a puppy recipe which is a mix of proteins, as well as adult options to transition them to adult recipes once they hit the right age.

You should always transition slowly even if it is to change from one flavour to another from the same brand. To transition, mix your dog’s current food with the new food over 7 days.

Once your pet has been fully transitioned to the new food, you should stick to the new diet for at least 2 months to see the full benefits and judge how well they are responding to it. A good diet will show in your dog’s appearance, their skin, a shiny coat, stool quality as well as new improved energy levels which we have gotten feedback from our customers upon transitioning to Buddy Bites.
